Decade
Formed in 2011, Bath-based alternative rock quintet Decade have carefully and consistently been grafting away in the background for the past two years, crafting and sculpting their sound into something that’s now as progressive as it is packed with nostalgia for another time.
Their strength comes from a time where songs were king and music was made from unflinching desire and necessity, rather than expectation. From their early roots in pop punk at their inception, on forthcoming long-awaited new studio album ‘Pleasantries’ set for release on Rude Records, the five piece have found their footing on firmer, more adult ground with a sound that has matured and blossomed into a contemporary take on brit-pop and grunge. Taking the time to get things right has, in their case, proved fruitful indeed.
Over the course of five years the band have released two EP’s and one full length album, their 2014 debut Good Luck, which saw them sign to Spinefarm Records (Universal) and leading to appearances at Reading & Leeds Festival, Download Festival, Slam Dunk and many more, plus a feature track on the latest Guitar Hero video game and a nomination for Best British Newcomers at the Kerrang! Awards. They have toured extensively across the UK and Europe with the likes of Saves The Day, The Used, A Day To Remember, Lower Than Atlantis, Tonight Alive, Mayday Parade and many more.
Support from Kerrang! Magazine, Rock Sound, Big Cheese Magazine, BBC Radio One, Punktastic, Louder Than War and many more big names in the UK rock music press catapulted them to the front of the pack of rising rock bands and set them on a path that would ultimately lead them face to face with the challenge of writing and recording an album that could not just match, but surpass, their critically acclaimed debut. Finally, they are ready to show the world what they’ve been working on.
Recorded and mastered across several legendary recording studios including Real World, Rockfield, and Abbey Road studios, ‘Pleasantries’ marks a defining moment in the bands tireless creative journey so far. In the steady growth of confidence of their front man, illustrator, multi-talented instrumentalist and producer Alex Sears, the band finally have a totemic, humble, empathic and intelligent rallying point for their legions of dedicated fans.
Sears’ adept and emotionally resonant song writing shines through on the new album. Underpinned by the unflinching passion and dedication of his friends and bandmates, Decade have all of their energy focused on returning bolder, brighter and bigger than before. With a record that’s a testament to creative endeavour, hard work, determination and ultimately serves as a dedication to wrestling back control of the self, Pleasantries is Decade as they’ve always wanted to sound; they just didn’t know it until now.
